Ernie Lee Crone, age 61, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born February 26, 1952 in Staunton, VA, he was the son of Mary Frances Shinaberry Crone of Taylorsville, MD and the late Paul Compton Crone.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs and the Knights of Columbus St. Vincent de Paul Council #12191. Ernie was a graduate of South Carroll High School in Westminster, MD and retired, after 30 years of service as a deli manager, from Giant Foods of Landover, MD. He and his wife owned and operated Pretzel Boy, LLC, a Snyder’s’ Pretzels distribution franchise for Washington County, MD. He was an outdoorsman, enjoyed watching wrestling and football, especially his “49’ers” and his 1986 Pontiac Trans Am.

In addition to his mother, Ernie is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rita Louise Langer Crone, at home, eight children, Michael Lorne Crone of Taneytown, MD, Brandan Farrel Crone and Wendi Lynnelle Gillespie, both of Westminster, Christina Nicole Kostka of Martinsburg, Curtis Matthew Crone, Victoria Marie Crone, Anthony Lee Crone and Paul Alexander Crone, all of Berkeley Springs, his sister, Connie Jane Burgoon of Eldersburg, MD, nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Liberty and S. Washington Streets, Berkeley Springs, WV with the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Smith as celebrant. Interment will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV.
